We have had these pendant medallions in stock for nearly 20 years, and they were quite old before that, when we discovered them in a great big warehouse clearance bead haul that we did. We estimate they were made around 1980s.
Usually these medallions were made using the lost-wax technique - an ancient and versatile casting method that has been used for millennia to create intricate metal objects, including religious pendants like the Coptic cross. The technique originated thousands of years before the Christian era and was adopted by various civilisations, incluing the early Christians in Egypt (the copts) to produce detailed and sumbolic metalwork.
Measurements: 55mm long (without loop) 60mm long (with loop) x 45mm wide x 4mm thick. Threading hole is almost 3mm and goes in the opposite direction of the pendant, so cord can be passed through for a necklace or choker without needing a connecting jumpring.
Quantity: 1
Weight: 22 grams
Material: Brass
The antiqued ancient look is adorable, and I'm sure you will find the right choker, or string of beads, to set this with.
