Bags of vintage beads. No two bags quite the same. And that's exactly the point. The Great Bead Lottery!We've been doing some tidying. Which, at Bead Shack, is always dangerous. Because when you start opening boxes … you find beads. And when you find beads … you start putting them And when you start putting them together… Things get out of hand. 😂 Which brings us to this ... BUY 1 - GET 1 FREEWe've already been making these popular mixed bags for a while - it was a great way for us to use splitting bags of beads instead of rebagging or repairing the packaging. They're full of vintage plastic and resin beads in all sorts of shapes, colours, sizes and finishes. And we've decided… WHY STOP NOW? We have bags and bags and bags of them. So, we're going to rescue even more. WHAT'S IN THE BAG? This is where it gets interesting. You might find: big beads - little beads - round beads - long beads - flat beads - bumpy beads - striped beads - swirly beads - shiny beads - matte beads - beads in colours you expected - beads in colours you absolutely did not expect …and probably a few that make you say: “What IS that?” 😂 And that's half the fun. These are vintage plastic and resin beads. There is no glass and no wood in these mixes. Just a glorious assortment of old AND HERE'S OUR LITTLE SECRET… Sometimes a bead that looks rather ordinary sitting by itself … looks fantastic when it's surrounded by other beads. That's one of the reasons we love making these mixes. Instead of trying to make every single bead earn its place on its own, we're creating combinations. A colour you wouldn't normally buy - A shape you wouldn't normally notice - A strange little bead you would have walked straight past. Put them together… and suddenly they work. It's a bit like casting a movie. You don't need everyone to be the leading actor. You need a good supporting cast. SO, WHAT DO YOU DO WITH 250g OF VINTAGE BEADS? Well …. Quite a lot, actually. They're wonderful for: MIXED MEDIA When you want texture, colour and lots of different shapes. TEXTILE & FIBRE ART Sew them, stitch them, weave them, embellish with them. JEWELLERY Pick out your favourites and build something completely individual. DECORATIONS Christmas decorations, hanging ornaments, wreaths and garlands. A popular theme at this moment is making your own beaded door or window ‘curtains’. FIGURES & DOLLS Heads, bodies, eyes, buttons, decorations … Your imagination is the limit. SCULPTURE & ART The more random the mix, the more interesting the finished piece can become. CHILDREN'S & GROUP CRAFT A big bowl of mixed beads is basically an invitation to make something. Everyone gets different treasures. Nobody has to make exactly the same thing. AND THEN THERE'S THE 500g BAG… (Which turns into 1 kilo – remember buy 1 get 1 free) This is where things start getting serious. Because 250g (receive 500g) is a lovely amount of beads. But 500g (receive 1 kilo)? That's a project. 😂 It's enough to rummage through. Sort by colour - Sort by size - Sort by shape - Make piles - Change your mind - Put everything back together - Make something - Take it apart - Make something else - We know how this works - We've been doing it for years. WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? Because we have a LOT. And we'd rather they were: being played with - being sorted - being turned into art - being made into jewellery - being used in classrooms - being incorporated into decorations - or simply making someone's creative brain very happy than sitting in our storage room. And the really good news? THE MORE WE MOVE, THE MORE WE CAN MAKE. Which means we can keep turning those boxes of forgotten beads into great big bags of creative possibilities. THE BEST THING ABOUT A MYSTERY BAG? You don't know exactly what you're going to get. And that's the point. You aren't buying 250g of beads you already know you like. You're buying: 250g of possibilities. (receive 500g) Or… 500g of possibilities. (receive 1 kilo) And if you're feeling particularly adventurous … buy two. That will equal 4 packs for the price of 2. That’s getting creatively Because the chances of them being identical are pretty slim. You could even tip them both out on the table and mix them together.
