The ankh symbol—sometimes referred to as the key of life or the key of the nile—is representative of eternal life in Ancient Egypt. Created by Africans long ago, the ankh is said to be the first--or original--cross.   Though its physical origins are uncertain, scholars believe it originated around the 30th to the 29th century BC.  With a history dating back so far, the ankh is one of the most recognisable and spiritual symbols of ancient Egypt.

The sign is also popular in the goth subculture, being particularly associated with vampires, because an ankh pendant appears prominently in the 1983 vampire film The Hunger.

The above information are bits and pieces taken from the internet.

We have had these pendant medallions in stock for nearly 20 years, and they were quite old before that, when we discovered them in a great big warehouse clearance bead haul that we did.  We estimate they were made around 1980s.

The antiqued ancient look is adorable, and I'm sure you will find the right choker, or string of beads, to set this with.
