23.5x15.5mm Oval Beads (10) - Blue w. Copper & White - Vintage Clay Beads

$18.00 AUD

These rice shape beads seem to be made from a white clay, with paint over the outside, but then scraped off into a pattern, so that the white base shows through.   Either that, or the markings are scored in before baking, and the paint has been put over the top.  I've tried to scrape paint off and can't do it easily, so the coating won't flake or peel off, that's for sure.  LOL seeing they are years old I'm sure they would have peeled years ago if they were ever going to!

Measurements:  23.5mm x 15.5mm, however being handmade means there is a lot of variation in the sizing and shapes.  We have taken photos in front of a ruler, as well as alone, to try and show the approximate sizing of the beads.

Due to the huge variation, we won't measure proportions, sizes or hole sizes here.  Please refer to the photos for that kind of information.

Quantity per pack:  10

The bead is painted a really interesting blue (would go so well with denim clothes!) and the scored pattern allows the white to show through.  Here and there is a slash of a coppery colour.  The bead has lines going the full length of the bead, then shorter lines within each section, either longways or across, with a white dot in the centre of each longways part.  Each bead weighs about 5 grams.

These clay beads are very old stock from a warehouse clearance, that we scooped up years ago.  You won't find beads in many places that are like these!  Truly unique handmade beads!  These beads were made individually by hand in India, probably to send to Africa for sale there.

These beads are from a collection of bisque fired (no glaze) terracotta/clay/ceramic.  There are a lot of definitions of the way these beads are made, and if you are interested, have a google about them and gather information.  They are amazing beads to find out about!

We can't be certain of their exact information, rather we are giving suggestions of what these beads are, and where they are from, how they are made etc, from information gathered from our general observations over the last many years in the bead trade.

We will attempt to give you beads that all look similar for each pack that you buy.
