300 x 9mm Pony Beads - NAIDOC Aboriginal Supplies

$13.50 AUD

300 acrylic 9mm Pony Beads

There will be enough beads to make approximately 16-18 medium sized bracelets.  Our calculations have been worked out on bracelets that are 17cm long.  Choose your pack style from the drop down menu.  You can purchase the beads on their own, or the beads + elastics kit to make bracelets.

NAIDOC WEEK - be prepared for the groups that need supplies for projects!

Bead Pack includes:

  • 100 x Black beads + 100 x Red beads + 100 x Yellow Beads = 300 Beads

Bead & Elastic Pack includes:

  • 100 x Black beads + 100 x Red beads + 100 x Yellow Beads = 300 Beads + 20 pre-cut lengths of 1mm thick cloth elastic cord (for making bracelets).

The beads are 9mm across by 6mm thick, with a 3mm threading hole.

These beads can be threaded on beading elastic, tigertail wire, crafting wire, fishing line, embroidery thread etc.  If you use wax cotton, or similar, you would have to find a thin one.  A great suggestion is our waxed flat cord.  When choosing your threading string, take into account what you are making, and whether there are clasps needed to be attached.  Some of the strings needs special finishings.  If you are catering for large numbers of people, we suggest elastic as the easiest method to use.  The holes in these beads are large enough for rat tail string which is useful for little children, or leather cord for older children and adults.

These packs make it so easy for teachers & group coordinators to create projects, especially relating to NAIDOC Week & any other Aboriginal celebration or special occasion.

Besides that, they are just a great tribal look mix of colours to have in your stash!

Please note these large packs of 3,000 will be packed by weight, so quantities are approximate.  The elastics should give you a pack of approximately 100 pieces around 25cm long.  Should you require exact quantities of elastic please put it in the comments section and we can double/triple check the pack for you.

Ages:  4+ (with supervision for youngsters)

Level of Difficulty:  Easy

Tools Required:  Sharp Scissors, Paperclip (optional - you can put it on one end of the cord whilst threading, to stop the beads from rolling off the other end)

Our bead packs are a great resource for teachers, caregivers, home school learners, pre-schools, free schooling, community groups, disability groups and so on.  We have made the packs as economical as possible, and we take into account the size of the hole, the thickness of the threads, and the time constraints on teachers & organisers.  Our bracelet kits are easy to thread and tie up, and are safe for children and adults alike to wear.  Once NAIDOC week finishes, the piece they have made can be used as a regular jewellery item for everyday wear.  Some of our packs are just for the beads in the appropriate colour scheme you choose, for you to make any project you have in mind.  Others include everything you need to make a completed project, eg Bracelet or Lanyard.

Once a year, Australia holds celebrations across the nation in the first week of July, to celebrate & recognise the history, culture & achievements of both Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander First Nation peoples.

NAIDOC week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures & histories, & participate in celebrations of the oldest continuous living cultures on earth.

NAIDOC is different to Reconciliation Week, which is to heal past damages.

NAIDOC meaning:  An acronym for National Aborigines and Islands Day Observance Committee

Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the First Peoples of Australia. Aboriginal peoples inhabited the whole of Australia, and Torres Strait Islander peoples lived in the islands between Australia and Papua New Guinea.  Both have different flags.

The Aboriginal Flag is divided horizontally into equal halves of black (top) and red (bottom), with a yellow circle in the centre. The black symbolises Aboriginal people. The yellow represents the sun, the constant re-newer of life. Red depicts the earth and peoples' relationship to the land.

Our Aboriginal NAIDOC bead packs include the 3 colours of black, red & yellow (or gold according to stock available at the time).

The Torres Strait Islander Flag has green panels at the top and bottom of the flag to represent the land and the central blue panel represents the sea. The black lines dividing the panels represent the Torres Strait Islander people. The centre of the flag shows a white dhari (dancer's headdress) which represents Torres Strait Islander culture.

Our Torres Strait NAIDOC bead packs include 3 colours, which are green, blue & white.  We have not included black in our packs however if you would like to include them, please email us.

Phrase Meaning:

This year's theme – Get up! Stand up! Show up! – encourages all of us to champion institutional, structural, collaborative, and cooperative change while celebrating those who have already driven and led change in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities over generations.

Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! to amplify our voices and narrow the gap between aspiration and reality, good intent and outcome. Get Up!

It’s a call to action.
