Frame Red Cinnabar Bead (1)
This cinnabar bead has the shape of a butterfly, through drilled from top to bottom.
The bead measures about 50mm x 50mm. The thicker part of the frame is 10mm across, while the thinner part is about 5mm across. The thinner part is where the hole goes through (both parts, ie you can thread a pin or wire right through the bead - as the picture is, the thread would go from left to right). The bead is about 109mm thick.
Centuries ago, people became very ill from making/wearing cinnabar due to it's mercury content! Today's cinnabar is most probably made from resin - sometimes still hand carved, and totally safe to wear.
